Determine Velocity

Post by Tortex »

Hello.

After a day of playing with Cocos2D with Box2D and Chipmunk, I've decided to go with Chipmunk. It seems much simpler to get what you need, and I can't see the performance issues a lot of people told me plagued Chipmunk. The iPhone demo project for example runs smooth as silk, so I'm happy with my choice.

My first trial at getting something to work involves knowing how fast a body is moving. Does Chipmunk include a method for this already, or will it be a case of me measuring pixels moved over time?

I want to build a simple game where if a sprite hits the floor too quick, it dies. Otherwise, it's a happy little sprite :)

I've been using Cocos and 2D for about 6 hours, I have gone through all the Ray Wenderlich tutorials which are great, but heavily Box2D focussed. Looking at the Chipmunk demo project for iPhone is helping me a lot, especailly the change in scene, that seems a very clean way to do it. Is there a commented version of that code anywhere?

This has turned into a bunch of questions, sorry. :)

Cheers.
