Animation-to-ragdoll test

Post by GarrettVD »

Just something I'm working on; not so much a fully-fledged game. Possibilities are endless with this animation-to-ragdoll game mechanic! It's still a bit janky, but I'm still ironing out the glitches. :D

Hey that's pretty neat looking. You set the positions of the bodies from the animation, but you should set the velocity and angular velocity too. That would make for some really great looking falls I think.

Good call on that; I implemented that the other day, and then my GPU on my Macbook died. Currently getting fixed. Anyhow the application is coming along nicely!

It did suck! But I'm glad I didn't have to pay for the repair! ( $500!! :O ) Finally got my MacBook Pro back! Working on my Mac Mini was a drag... Very slow. Anyhow, I've got another video. Did a lot of work over the past week or so. Biggest change is a more accurate collision detection to detect when a CCNode is touched using a raycast (prior to becoming a Chipmunk body, of course). Once a touch has been detected, the character turns into a rag doll. Oh, and I've also implemented panning of the camera.

It's coming along though. I suspect I'll have to do a lot of leak-fixing over the next few days!

Funny, my MacBook Pro is in for GPU replacement right now. Fortunately it was one of the defective 8600Ms so I got it replaced for free thanks to NVidia. (Although it probably wouldn't have died if 8600Ms weren't defective...) I just bought an iMac this year so it would have been pretty hard to swallow the replacement cost otherwise.

Anyway, looking pretty sweet. I'd still definitely add the velocity setting of the bodies. Is this going to be castle defender but with more dismemberment? Not really my sort of game, but I could see that selling well. ;)

Oh no way! I must have jinxed you, lol. Yeah the 2008 - 2009 MBP's have that issue; I did lots of research on that so I could confront the guys at the Genius Bar about it. I was told that my model (17" unibody 2010 MBP) wasn't covered under that. But they covered it anyway because it my warrant had just barely expired. And I'm sure they want me to blow more money on Apple products in the future. ;)

The game is going to be a castle-defense in a way, yep! The gimmick being the dismembering. I'll keep this thread updated!

Hah. My first reaction to the trap you put down was "Was that a rake?". Looking pretty good.
