Is NDEBUG the new DNDEBUG?
If so, you still have a few comments referencing DNDEBUG.
If not, can you clarify which we need set for optimized release builds vs. debug builds?

NDEBUG is the symbol, the same one used all over in C standard C headers for things like assert().
"-DNEBUG" is the compiler flag you use to define NDEBUG.
"-DNEBUG" is the compiler flag you use to define NDEBUG.
